Ainsley Harriott is a celebrated chef, broadcaster, and bestselling author, known not only for his infectious energy and culinary expertise but also for his advocacy for racial equality. Currently hosting Ainsley’s Good Mood Food on ITV and the author of numerous cookbooks including Ainsley Harriott’s Caribbean Kitchen, he uses his platform to highlight issues of diversity, inclusion, and representation within the food industry and beyond. As a racial equality speaker, Ainsley draws on his personal experiences as a Black chef to explore topics such as racial equality in professional kitchens, the importance of cultural representation, and breaking down barriers in traditionally exclusive industries.

Ainsley began his career in the fine dining kitchens of London in the 1980s after training at Westminster Kingsway College. He worked at prestigious establishments such as the Westbury Hotel and later as head chef at the Long Room at Lord’s Cricket Ground. Despite his talent and qualifications, Ainsley encountered racism early on. He has spoken candidly about applying for jobs in high-end restaurants, only to be told directly that they would not hire Black chefs. Rather than letting discrimination hold him back, Ainsley channelled his passion for food and people into carving out his own space, combining his skills as a chef with his gift for entertainment to launch a successful career in television.

Over the years, Ainsley has used his visibility to advocate for racial equality in the culinary world. Through his shows, including Ainsley’s Caribbean Kitchen and Ainsley’s Mediterranean Cookbook, he proudly celebrates his cultural heritage and shines a light on diverse cuisines that have historically been underrepresented. In 2022, Ainsley was awarded an MBE for services to broadcasting and the culinary arts. His continued involvement in initiatives such as Fairtrade Fortnight and his support for various charities reflect his commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable society.

Organisations book Ainsley as a speaker because of his inspiring journey and his powerful message about overcoming racial barriers. In his talks, he speaks openly about his experiences with racism in fine dining and how they shaped his determination to succeed and advocate for change. Ainsley encourages audiences to embrace diversity, challenge discrimination, and build inclusive environments where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Official Testimonials

Ainsley Harriott is regularly booked to engage audiences at events, read their latest feedback below:

“I just wanted to say a huge thank you for recommending Ainsley for our award ceremony, what a star! He was so down to earth, worked the room continuously throughout the drinks reception posing for photos and signing autographs, nothing was too much trouble. During the dinner, he continued to work the room again talking to all the guests. He must have spoken to every guest and kissed and cuddled them at least three times each- there were 150! What a genuine, funny and charming man.”

L&Q Awards

“Ainsley was amazing! The day went well and only a chef presenter of Ainsley’s experience and unique approach to the public could not have got the crowd going. I liked that he offered the contestants advice and praise as this gave the event a more spontaneous feel. The restaurants were appreciative as were the local politicians.”
