Ije McDougall is Magistrate for the UK Ministry of Justice, presiding over court cases and applying the law with fairness and integrity – work that deepens her understanding of justice and social inequality. She is also the Founder of The Kairos Initiative, a charity supporting victims of insurgency in Nigeria. Alongside this, she serves as an HR Expert Adviser for HM Revenue & Customs, where she provides guidance on employment law and workplace fairness. Taking her lived-experiences and professional insight, Ije delivers bold, thought-provoking talks on identity, belonging, and social justice. She is driven by a desire to amplify marginalised voices and challenge the everyday biases that shape how people of colour navigate society. She explores topics such as identity, self-acceptance, self-confidence, equality, diversity, and inclusion, female empowerment, life as an immigrant, and more – all with a powerful combination of warmth and clarity.

Her career began in broadcasting, where she worked as a News Correspondent and TV Presenter for the Nigerian Television Authority. After moving to the UK, she took on roles that deepened her expertise in human resources, employment law, and mediation – most notably as an Employment Law Advisor for ACAS and later as an HR Expert Adviser for HM Revenue & Customs. These positions, combined with her personal experiences as a Black immigrant woman in Britain, have shaped her voice as a speaker. In 2021, she was appointed as a Magistrate, further grounding her voice in justice, fairness, and equality. Her work through The Kairos Initiative also shows her commitment to justice both locally and globally. Her unique blend of legal insight, humanitarian work, and personal storytelling makes her voice both authentic and impactful.

In 2020, Ije published her book, Surviving 0 to 5: #MumofGirls, a candid, humorous, and heartfelt reflection of her journey through the early years of motherhood. In recent years, her work has gained national recognition, being shortlisted for the Positive Role Model Award at the National Diversity Awards in 2020, and in 2023, named Cheshire Woman of the Year. Organisations invite Ije to speak because she brings authenticity, insight, and real-life experience to every stage she steps on. Her talks don’t just inform – they resonate. Whether exploring the complexities of identity, the quiet strength in self-acceptance, or the resilience found in the life of an immigrant, Ije delivers her message with clarity, compassion, and conviction. She challenges audiences to reflect deeply in sessions like “What Do You Know and Who Told You?” and “I’m a Statistic”, while inspiring empowerment through themes like self-confidence and the power of an idea. Her ability to connect across sectors and generations makes her a compelling and necessary voice in the conversation around race, equality, and belonging.

“October is Black History Month and last week I was lucky enough to attend a talk by Ije McDougall. We all attend talks, webinars, and seminars and we like to think we take something away and learn something new. But in just over an hour of listening to Ije, I was left almost speechless about what I heard and what I learned. It has made me go away and read more, learn more and understand more. Thank you Ije, the most inspirational and thought-provoking talk I’ve genuinely ever been to.”
