Alexandra Wilson is a passionate advocate for racial equality and a practising barrister at Five St Andrew’s Hill Chambers, specialising in both criminal and family law. Her work spans cases involving domestic abuse, finance disputes, and both public and private children matters. She is also a Grade 2 prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service, further cementing her commitment to justice. Alexandra’s lived experience as a Black woman navigating the legal profession—where she has, on multiple occasions, been mistaken for a defendant—fuels her drive to address systemic racism within the justice system. These experiences, which she powerfully documents in her memoir, In Black and White: A Young Barrister’s Story of Race and Class in a Broken Justice System, underscore her credibility and authenticity as a racial equality speaker. Her speaking topics include racial bias in the legal system, access to justice, social mobility, and representation of Black professionals in law.

Alexandra’s path to the Bar began with academic excellence. She was awarded the Master’s Scholarship from University College, Oxford, and later received the prestigious Queen’s Scholarship from Middle Temple for her Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP University. Her academic achievements were also recognised through the RAI Award from the Rothermere American Institute. As her legal career progressed, she quickly established herself not only through courtroom advocacy but also by mentoring and engaging in outreach. She is an active mentor with Women in Criminal Law and contributes to various committees promoting equality and education, including the Middle Temple Hall Equality, Diversity and Social Mobility Sub-Committee.

In recent years, Alexandra has gained national recognition for her relentless campaigning and innovative initiatives. She is the founder of Black Women in Law, a network supporting Black women in the legal profession, and co-founder of One Case At A Time, which funds legal support for cases with social justice implications. Her advocacy has earned her numerous accolades and a strong public platform. Alongside her legal work, Alexandra has authored two books—In Black and White: A Young Barrister’s Story of Race and Class in a Broken Justice System and The Witness—both of which blend her personal and professional experiences to highlight systemic inequalities in law and society.

As a speaker, Alexandra offers deep insights into the intersections of race, law, and social justice. Her talks delve into the realities of being a Black professional in a historically exclusive field, the importance of inclusive legal education, and the urgent need for diversity at all levels of the judiciary. She is regularly hired for her ability to inspire action, challenge perceptions, and offer concrete solutions grounded in real-life experience and legal expertise. Her unique blend of professional authority and personal authenticity makes her an essential voice in conversations on racial equality and systemic reform.
