Andre Norman is a globally recognised motivational and racial equality speaker, recognised by many as the number-one prison success story in the world and known as The Ambassador of Hope. He is the Founder of the Academy of Hope and Second Chance University, organisations committed to prison reform and second-chance education. Drawing directly from his lived experience as a former gang leader and inmate, Andre uses his powerful personal story to advocate for racial equity, prison reform, and personal transformation. His message is grounded in authenticity, resilience, and change. Andre speaks on topics such as racial justice, leadership, the power of second chances, and overcoming adversity—reaching diverse audiences from boardrooms to juvenile detention centres.
Andre’s early life was shaped by violence, poverty, and illiteracy. At 14, he gave up playing the trumpet out of fear of social rejection, marking the beginning of a downward spiral. He soon became deeply entrenched in street crime, eventually receiving sentences that totalled over 100 years. During his first six years in prison, Andre became one of the most feared gang leaders in the Massachusetts prison system. It wasn’t until two years in solitary confinement that he had a transformative epiphany—realising he had become the “king of nowhere”. From that moment, Andre committed to change. He taught himself to read, studied law, and immersed himself in personal development, eventually earning parole after 14 years. Just 90 minutes after release, he gave his first speech at a juvenile facility, laying the foundation for his life’s mission.
Since then, Andre has amassed an impressive list of achievements. He received a fellowship at Harvard Law School in 2016 and was previously honoured with the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race & Justice Research Fellowship in 2015. In 2024, he founded Second Chance University, an initiative dedicated to rehabilitation and reintegration. He has served as a Community Development Workshop Leader for Genius Network and has delivered talks for major institutions such as The White House, Harvard, London Business School, EO, YPO, and Ferguson (MO). His programmes have reached people in over 25 countries, helping to break cycles of violence and incarceration through education and mentorship.
Andre speaks on racial inequality with unmatched depth and credibility. His keynote topics include dismantling systemic injustice, embracing personal accountability, the role of mentorship in marginalised communities, and the power of education in breaking generational cycles. His approach is not only motivational—it is transformative, rooted in experience, and driven by a mission to bring real change. Andre is hired not only for his eloquence and charisma, but because he embodies the possibility of redemption and racial justice. His voice resonates with those seeking real stories of hope, and his insight offers practical tools for personal and societal transformation.
