Afua Hagan is a leading journalist, broadcaster, and a prominent voice on diversity and inclusion in the UK. Afua’s journey into media began after moving from Glasgow to London at the age of 17 to study journalism at City University, specialising in broadcast and music. Her early career saw her working at T4 and PopWorld, followed by ITV’s 60 Minute Makeover. She quickly progressed to editorial positions, first joining Blackhair Magazine as an Editorial Assistant and becoming Editor within a year. Afua later served as Features Editor for Pride Magazine and Editor-in-Chief at Glam Africa Magazine, where she led content that bridged African and Western cultures. Her passion for storytelling and advocating for diversity in media has driven her career, with roles including producer and anchor at Arise News, and presenting at ABN TV, where she launched Entertainment Weekly.
In recent years, Afua has expanded her portfolio as a media commentator and speaker. She hosted the CNBC show Sustainable Energy, focusing on environmental issues, and presented The A-List on The Beat 103.6FM, supporting Afrobeats and the UK music scene. In 2024, she delivered a powerful TEDx talk titled Too Dark for Daytime TV, challenging the lack of representation in mainstream media and offering insights on how to drive meaningful change.
