Currently working as a Project Manager for the Environment Agency, Ayo Sokale is a talented Civil Engineer. Pioneering her sector as an influential woman, Ayo advocates for diversity in STEM and has previously been an Institute of Civil Engineering President’s Future Leader in 2018. Also a Councillor for Reading Borough Council, Ayo is now booked as a speaker for a range of corporate events to speak on women in STEM, women in engineering, diversity and inclusion.
Following a Master’s Degree in Civil and Coastal Engineering at the University of Plymouth, Ayo has forged a successful career as a civil engineer, working roles such as Site Supervisor for West Berkshire Council and a BIM Lead for the Environment Agency. Ayo has also been an ICE Eco-Warrior and is now a Delegated Engineer at the Institution for Civil Engineers. Outside of her work with the Environment Agency, Ayo is often seen advocating STEM careers and encourages future generations of civil engineers.
As a member of Reading Borough Council, Ayo has been a prominent board member of many different political panels. She has had an impact on the Housing, Neighbourhoods and Leisure Committee, the Planning Applications Committee, the Parenting Panel and several other. Outside of politics and civil engineering, Ayo has also formerly been an avid beauty pageant contestant – acting as the Regional Director of the Miss Earth Organisation and claiming the titles of Miss Sussex, Miss East Sussex and Miss Plymouth.
Also a keen advocate for sustainability, Ayo co-founded the Plastic Free Group and is seen promoting information on things such as flood and coastal risk management. Named as one of the Top 50 Women in Engineering Under 35 by The Independent, Ayo is now a popular choice as a speaker to promote diversity in STEM, pioneering a male-dominated sector.
