Candice Brathwaite is a Sunday Times bestselling author, journalist, and TV presenter, who is renowned for her work in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion. As the founder of the Make Motherhood Diverse podcast and a passionate voice for underrepresented communities, she has become a leading figure in the conversation on racial inequality, particularly within the realms of motherhood, education, and the media. Motivated by personal experiences and a commitment to social justice, Candice speaks on topics such as the intersectionality of race and motherhood, the lack of representation for Black women in media, and financial empowerment for marginalised communities. Her work aims to challenge societal norms and foster inclusivity in all areas of life.
Candice’s journey to becoming a prominent racial equality speaker began with her career in publishing. After securing a position as a Marketing Assistant at Penguin Random House through a diversity initiative competition, Candice quickly realised the lack of representation in her field, which led her to start blogging about her experiences as a young Black mother. She founded the podcast, Make Motherhood Diverse to address the absence of diverse voices in motherhood discussions and advocate for greater representation. This initial move into the public sphere set her on a path to becoming an outspoken advocate for diversity and inclusivity, helping her transition from a marketing role to a full-time career focused on social justice.
In recent years, Candice’s achievements have been nothing short of remarkable. Her debut book, I Am Not Your Baby Mother, became a Sunday Times bestseller, shedding light on the disparities Black British mothers face. She has since published Sista Sister, Cuts Both Ways, and Manifesto, while continuing to participate in high-profile speaking engagements. Candice’s advocacy extends beyond books, with regular media appearances and a global tour to engage audiences on critical issues of racial equality.
As a speaker, Candice Brathwaite’s expertise lies in addressing the systemic barriers faced by Black communities and empowering individuals through financial independence and racial awareness. She regularly speaks about the importance of diverse representation in media, the challenges of balancing motherhood with professional success, and how individuals can challenge inequality in their own lives. Her unique perspective as a Black woman navigating these spaces makes her an in-demand speaker, with organisations and events keen to hear her insights on creating a more inclusive society.
