From a challenging childhood to WBC Heavyweight titleholder, Frank Bruno’s life story is nothing short of remarkable. The world class boxer, who is known for his exceptional punching power, has gained the admiration of the public both in and out of the ring. Having suffered mental health problems, and been the victim of racial abuse, Frank uses his platform to raise awareness of such issues. As a speaker, Frank explores the highs and lows of his famous career and the role individuals and businesses can play in championing diversity.
Frank is best recognised for his spectacular winning streak, securing 40 of 45 fights, and his unparallel knockout ratio of 95%. Having learnt to box at Oak Hall School for ‘problem’ children, Frank went on to defy the odds, turning professional in 1981 and challenging two of the world’s most respected fighters: Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis. In 1995, after the long awaited face off of Frank and Oliver McCall and twelve rounds in the ring, Frank was named WBC World Heavy Weight Champion, the pinnacle of his career.
Forced into retirement through injury, Frank has since become a popular media personality and even taken on various acting roles for stage and TV. From travelling the UK with his show ‘An Audience with Frank Bruno’ to making appearances on The One Show, GMB and Lorraine, Frank remains prominent in the spotlight. Both of his books, Frank: Fighting Back and Let Me Be Frank were highly acclaimed for their honest accounts of Frank’s journey to the top, and battle with mental health. In 1990, Frank was honoured with an MBE for his services to boxing.
Much of Frank’s time is currently dedicated to speaking engagements, using his story of success through adversity to inspire others. When exploring his experiences of online racism and discrimination, Frank motivates audiences to be part of the positive change happening, similarly to the influence he had whilst in the ring. A champion of improving racial diversity and equality, Frank’s speaking engagements always leave a lasting impact.
