Gloria Ladson-Billings is a renowned educator, speaker, and author who has dedicated her career to advancing racial equality through education. Currently, she serves as Professor Emerita at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she previously held the role of Assistant Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs. Gloria’s path began with a B.S. in Education from Morgan State University in 1968, followed by an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Washington in 1972. Her academic journey culminated in a PhD from the Stanford Graduate School of Education in 1984, where she developed her foundational understanding of curriculum and teacher education. In 1991, she joined the University of Wisconsin–Madison as a professor and, by 1995, became the first Black woman to be tenured in its School of Education—an historic achievement that set the tone for a career marked by leadership, trailblazing research, and advocacy.

Throughout her distinguished career, Gloria has received numerous accolades, including the AERA Social Justice in Education Award (2015), the Brock Prize for Education Innovation (2012), and the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Benjamin Banneker Association (2016). She was also President of the American Educational Research Association in 2005 and has been elected to prestigious bodies including the National Academy of Education, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and as a corresponding fellow of the British Academy in 2021. Her influential books, such as The Dreamkeepers (1994), Culturally Relevant Pedagogy (2021), and Justice Matters (2023), continue to shape discourse on race and education globally.
