Having taken the modelling world by storm, influential role model Harnaam Kaur is changing the stereotypes of beauty and proudly taking ownership of who she is. Suffering from the condition Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome with side effects of Hirsutism, Harnaam developed facial hair and now sports a full beard. Holder of the Guinness World Record as the youngest woman to have a full beard, Harnaam is a popular BAME speaker who is booked to create acceptance and encourage diversity and inclusivity in the world around us.
First diagnosed with PCOS aged 12, Harnaam was subject to cruel bullying and attempted at first to remove her facial hair. She has since chosen to accept her condition, proudly embracing her facial hair as a bearded woman. Now a spokesperson for body positivity, Harnaam’s striking looks have also landed her jobs as a model. Signed to Wanted Models in Paris, Harnaam has been fortunate to model for Rock N Roll Bride and took to the catwalk at the renowned London Fashion Week, making history as the first woman with a beard to walk the iconic catwalk.
Harnaam has not always been confident with her condition, having previously struggled with her mental health and body image. Passionate to see that everyone is accepted, despite the way that they look, Harnaam has become an activist for various topical causes. Throughout her life, Harnaam has been subject to horrific abuse and bullying, now standing up for rights in mental health, cyberbullying, LGBTQIA+ issues and body image in a range of discussions at the Houses of Parliament.
Harnaam has also been racially profiled on many occasions, with people discriminating against her due to both her race and religion. Now a popular BAME speaker, Harnaam shares such experiences to raise awareness of the racism and inequality still prominent in the world which people of Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds face. Raising awareness of how deeply systematic racism is in society, Harnaam is the perfect speaker to raise awareness of racial discrimination.
