Dr Janet Bashen is a pioneering entrepreneur, business consultant, and racial equality advocate. As the Founder & CEO of Bashen Corporation, she has dedicated her career to investigating workplace discrimination claims and promoting equal employment opportunities. Her lived experiences growing up in the segregated South of America deeply shaped her commitment to racial justice, fuelling her passion for advocacy. Janet’s path to success began with a strong academic foundation. After studying Legal Studies and Government at the University of Houston, she worked in the insurance industry, handling Equal Employment Opportunity claims. Recognising the need for better systems to manage discrimination investigations, she took a bold step in 1994, securing a small loan from her mother to establish Bashen Corporation. With determination and innovation, she built a company that would become a leader in workplace equality solutions.

Her contributions have earned her numerous accolades. In 2006, she made history as the first African-American woman to receive a patent for web-based software. She was recognised for her ground-breaking Nalikah (formerly LinkLine) technology and has received prestigious honours throughout her career, including the Pinnacle Award from the Houston Chamber of Commerce, the Crystal Award from the National Association of Negro Women in Business, and being selected as a member of the Black Investor’s Hall of Fame.
