Jo-Ann Rolle is a highly sought-after racial equality speaker and a distinguished business leader, currently as Senior Business Advisor at BairesDev and Founder of J D Rolle & Associates LLC and Founder of Jo-Ann Rolle Consulting. With a professional journey that spans across continents and sectors—from Tanzania to the US federal government—Jo-Ann’s lived experiences as a Black woman in global business environments fuel her passionate advocacy for racial equity. Her voice is both informed and inspiring, often addressing critical themes such as the future of work; diversity, equity, and inclusion; women’s empowerment; and motivation. These themes are not abstract concepts to her—they are battles she has lived through and continues to champion in boardrooms, conferences, and classrooms.

Her journey began with a robust academic and economic foundation, having served as a Senior Economist at Tanzania Housing Bank and Economist and Operations Research Analyst for the US Federal Government in the late 1970s. Over the coming decades, Jo-Ann built an exceptional academic leadership career, holding key positions including Academic Dean of Business & Technology at Excelsior College, Chief Academic Officer at LIM College, and ultimately Dean of the School of Business at Medgar Evers College, where she launched the transformative Entrepreneurship & Experiential Learning Lab. These roles solidified her as a leader with both scholarly insight and deep community engagement, particularly for underserved populations.

In recent years, Jo-Ann has been widely recognised for her trailblazing work. She received the Trailblazer Award in 2020, the Inspirational Woman Award in 2019, and multiple honours from Medgar Evers College and beyond for her contributions to economic empowerment and entrepreneurship. Her 2024 book, Tech-Enabled Futures: Elevating Education in Underserved Areas, reflects her vision for inclusive progress, and she served as a keynote speaker at the 2024 Small Talk Roundtable. Her leadership has also been felt through board roles at Pierian Foundation, Glasgow Caledonian New York College, and the Global Listening Centre.

Jo-Ann’s speaking engagements draw from her rich history in higher education, entrepreneurship, and economic development, weaving in personal narratives that highlight the systemic challenges faced by racially marginalised communities. Her insights into DEI, motivation, and the future of inclusive leadership make her an essential voice for organisations aiming to foster meaningful cultural transformation. She is hired not only for her credibility and experience but also for her unique ability to connect, inspire, and drive actionable change through a racial equality lens.

“It is indeed a great pleasure and honor to write some lines about Professor Jo-Ann Rolle. In my view, she is an outstanding human being, brilliant and a real leader in many areas of social sciences and entrepreneurship. I was lucky to meet her personally at the School of Business at Medgar Evers College. The City University of New York. USA. I was impressed by the quality of her work and the abilities she showed during the Conference. She made all of us to feel at home. I believe that it was a rather unique opportunity to meet her and the team at the School of Business. I have been twice In New York in my life and in this second opportunity, I was lucky to spend some time with Professor Rolle and the nice people attending the Conference.
I am extremely careful to choose the right people at the right time and place and I do believe that Professor Rolle is one of the very best I have ever met in my life. We have done some work together and published some relevant analysis and data about education and entrepreneurship. She is quick, clever and humble. It is well known that the sum of the parts in not equal to the whole, nevertheless Professor Rolle has been contributing to mankind and society for a very long time and she continue to work harder and harder.
I keep in close touch with her and I have never received a negative reply to a request from my side to start a new and fresh project devoted to help people out and make a better world for the generation of people to come. It is not easy to write about a great person, nevertheless I do believe that Professor Rolle will continue to contribute to the real principles and values in which growing societies and economies are based on.”

“It is always heartening to know an uptight academic who continues to sparkle with enthusiasm. I count myself fortunate to have known Dr Jo-Ann Rolle for a number of years. Our respective institutions have worked closely in a spirit of partnership in organising an annual conference in New York – The International Conference on Business & Economic Development (ICBED). Her eye for detail and cogent analysis has been essential in helping ensure that the conference has gone from strength to strength Thanks to her encouragement academics at Medgar Evers College have successfully submitted papers to the International Journal of Business & Economic Development (ICBED), an academic journal published by my Centre. It has been really heartening to see another paper from the same institution submitted and published in a sister journal, the International Journal of Higher Education Management (IJHEM). Dr Rolle has delivered a series of keynote addresses including one at the International Conference on the Restructuring of the Global Economy at Oxford University. We both attended a major academic conference in Bangladesh, and it was a real privilege to see her speak so eloquently about empowerment. Recently we have embarked on an exciting book project, an opportunity to shine a light on an issue that is dear to our respective institutions.

“Dr Rolle`s research demonstrated thoroughness and insight that has become her hallmark. Such qualities were instrumental in her being awarded a Fellowship of the Centre for Business & Economic Research – an honour that is richly deserved.

“In the course of various conversations with her, I know that she is passionate about her work and desirous to do all in her power to support students and faculty in their own academic and professional endeavours. “I met Dr. Jo-Ann Rolle in a research conference at Oxford University, where she was a key note speaker. She was vibrant, confident, and lucid in her talk. I requested her for collaboration and guidance, which she graciously accepted. Since then, I have been in touch with her and found her very helping and supportive. Over the time, I have consulted her on various university administrative issues. She supported me to champion the idea of a new program launch at my university, which we launched this year. “Very rarely in life does one come across a person with the vision, the dynamism and the integrity of Dr Jo-Anne Rolle. She is an exceptional individual who has that rare gift of not only spotting the potential in others, but of helping them both believe in themselves and empower them in such a manner that they become positive and purposeful individuals. She is a remarkably driven individual, one who not only assimilates and processes information with ease, but also has an unerring ability to anticipate problems before they arise.

Dr Rolle exercises authority and leadership with care, and helps foster a remarkable camaraderie amongst those she works with. Hers is a generous spirit, one that seeks to lift people up, rather than take them down. Her no nonsense approach means that she gets things done, and when she sets to a task she delivers it with tremendous brio. A powerful orator, she is also discerning and empathetic. I greatly admire the way in which she is able to reach out, forge partnerships, and convince others that things can and should be done differently. Dr Rolle is no mere passenger, she listens, asks questions, and where possible provides ideas and solutions that helps move matters forward. A culturally aware, and culturally sensitive individual, she has a keen eye for detail and works well both individually and as part of a team. A consummate diplomat, Dr Rolle is mindful of the importance of developing trust and works in a manner that both delivers results and that earns respect. Hers is an impactful life, and I have no doubt that she will continue to serve and strive to the very best of her ability.”
