Luther Blissett is famed for his career as a footballer and manager, having become Watford’s top scorer and most capped player. Having scored 186 goals and played 503 matches for Watford, Luther is widely regarded as one of the best footballers of all time. Throughout his career as a footballer, Luther has passionately raised awareness of racism in the sport. Now booked as a speaker for events, Luther shares his experiences of racism and the ongoing racial issues in sport.

Beginning his footballing career as an apprentice at Watford, Luther made his professional debut in the 1975 season. Proving his talent for the game, Luther began playing as a striker and has since gone on to play for other teams such as A.C Millan, Bournemouth, Southport and West Bromwich Albion. Becoming the most capped Watford player, with 503 matches under his belt, Luther also helped his team earn a promotion from the Fourth to the First Division. Having played in everything from the FA Cup to the FA Premier League, Luther knows what it takes to succeed on the pitch.

Alongside club appearances, Luther has also played for the England National Team – earning four caps for the England Under-21s, one cap for the England B team and 14 caps for the England National Team. Upon joining England, Luther made headlines as one of the first Black players for the senior England team and later the first Black player to score a hat-trick. Today, Luther shares his experience as a Black player and how there needs to not only be diversity on the pitch but also in the football boardroom.

Alongside playing the sport, Luther has also been a football manager having managed Burnham FC. His appointment as a manager was a great milestone in diversity, and today as a speaker he promotes that ‘anyone of any ethnicity should be able to get in the boardroom’ at his speaking events. His work to eliminate racism in football earned him great praise, one of the factors that earned him the appointment of Freedom of the Borough of Watford and Deputy Lieutenant of Hertfordshire. Passionate about increasing diversity and promoting inclusion in football, Luther Blissett is a fantastic speaker for events who will encourage open and authentic conversations about eliminating racism and discrimination.
