Medina Jett is a distinguished attorney, entrepreneur, and advocate for racial equality. As the founder of Jett Speaks, LLC, she dedicates her efforts to inspiring and empowering professional women and people of colour through career development, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and diversity consulting. Medina’s motivation as a racial equality speaker stems from her personal experiences navigating corporate environments where she was often the only Black person in the room. Her speaking topics include “Driving Change Through Awareness: A Conversation on What Racial Equality Looks Like”, where she shares insights on systemic racism and strategies for fostering inclusive workplaces.
Medina’s early career is marked by a series of ground-breaking roles. She served as Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at Cigna Retirement & Investment Services, becoming the first Black and youngest executive in the company’s history. She continued to break barriers as Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer at Prudential Retirement and later at The Hartford Life Insurance Company, where she was the first Black executive in both organisations. These roles honed her legal expertise, business acumen, and leadership skills, laying the foundation for her future endeavours.
In 2008, Medina founded Integrated Compliance Solutions Group, LLC (ICSGroup), providing legal and compliance services to Wall Street firms across the United States and Africa. She made history as the only African American woman globally to own an asset management compliance firm. ICSGroup’s success was recognised in a Harvard Business Review case study, highlighting her entrepreneurial journey. After 12 years, she sold the company, joining a select group of Black women who have led their companies from inception to successful acquisition. Furthermore, Medina has received prestigious awards recognition for her work, including the Anti-Defamation League’s Torch of Liberty, the Urban League of Southern Connecticut’s Diversity Award, and the Tri-State Diversity Council’s Influential Women Award.
Medina’s speaking engagements delve into the nuances of achieving racial equality in corporate settings. In her sessions, she discusses the impacts of systemic racism and outlines actionable steps for organisations to foster inclusivity.
