Sarah Cosgriff is an award-winning science communicator, asexual activist, and advocate for equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in STEM. With over a decade of experience collaborating with leading institutions such as Oxford University, the University of Birmingham and BBC Bitesize, she offers compelling talks on topics ranging from LGBTQ+ representation in science to intersectionality in education. Shortlisted for the Positive Role Model Award – LGBT at the National Diversity Awards in 2022, Sarah is hired to speak for her powerful combination of lived experience, academic rigour and a capacity to engage diverse audiences.
Sarah’s foundation in Biological Sciences and Systems Biology at the University of Warwick led her into roles with The Prince’s Trust as Learning and Development Manager, University of Birmingham as STEM Administrator, then Assistant STEM Coordinator and the Association for Science Education as the Inclusion in Schools Consultant. Early in her career, she supported the Institute of Physics’ Improving Gender Balance programme, addressing the stark gender imbalance in A-Level physics. She also worked with Schools OUT UK to create resources integrating LGBTQ+ people into STEM curricula. Her role as Scientist-in-Residence with Lab_13 and her coordination of STEM for Queer Youth demonstrate how she has consistently championed underrepresented voices in science.
In recent years, Sarah has delivered a series of high-impact projects. In 2024, she consulted on Curtain Up! – The drama of sound and light, and in 2023, she developed STEM workshops at a UK heritage site. In 2022, she played a lead role in BBC Bitesize’s Show Me The Science and developed public engagement training at Oxford University. That same year, her shortlist placement for the Positive Role Model Award highlighted her prominence in the public sphere. Her founding of STEM for Queer Youth, funded by the Biochemical Society, provides visible LGBTQ+ role models. She has also guided organisations, including UCL, Manchester and the Francis Crick Institute, towards more inclusive practice.
Sarah is the ideal BAME and EDI speaker because she brings together intersectional insight, lived LGBTQ+ experience, and professional credibility. Her topics, from equity in STEM to asexuality in business, inclusive science communication and intersectionality, are rooted in real, actionable strategies. Audiences benefit not only from her academic expertise and diverse heritage but also from her energy and empathy, allowing organisations to foster authentic, inclusive change. By hiring Sarah Cosgriff, you gain a speaker who is not just representative but transformational.
