Tanya Obeng is a passionate and dynamic racial equality speaker whose work is deeply rooted in her lived experience as a Black British woman navigating multiple sectors. She is the Founder of Communication Doctor, where she provides executive coaching on communication, innovation, and unconscious bias. Tanya’s life journey has fuelled her drive to foster more inclusive environments across education, business, and creative industries. Her voice is authentic, informed, and resonant—particularly when addressing complex topics such as Allyship, Ageism, Anti-Racism, Cross-Cultural Communication, Disability Inclusion, Growth Mindset, Inclusive Culture, Inclusive Leadership, Inclusive Hiring, Intersectionality, Microaggressions, and Unconscious (or Implicit) Bias. Her ability to speak from personal and professional experience makes her a powerful catalyst for change.
Tanya’s path to becoming a respected voice in racial equality is grounded in both her creative and educational backgrounds. She began her career in the arts, completing a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Dance at the University of Leeds in 1999, followed by graduating from the Teacher’s Programme in Drama and Theatre Arts at the University of East London in 2008. In 2010, she launched Lifted and Gifted, serving as its Director for 11 years, creating workshops focused on innovative teaching methods for young people. Her transition into coaching and advocacy was a natural evolution, blending her communication expertise with her passion for social justice.
In recent years, Tanya has built an impressive portfolio of work that underscores her credibility and impact. In 2018, she founded the Communication Doctor, providing tailored coaching to executives and organisations seeking to embed equity into their cultures. A year later, she launched the Real Stories podcast on Spotify, highlighting personal accounts of resilience, bias, and identity. In 2022, she delivered a powerful TEDx talk titled Unconscious Bias: The Limitation of Labels, which drew widespread attention for its clarity, vulnerability, and practical insight. Her influence continues to grow as organisations across sectors seek her guidance in creating inclusive spaces.
Tanya is frequently hired because she offers more than knowledge—she offers lived insight and transformative strategies. Her sessions on racial equality interweave key themes such as allyship, microaggressions, and intersectionality with practical advice on inclusive leadership and hiring practices. Whether addressing unconscious bias or fostering inclusive cultures, Tanya tailors her approach to the unique needs of her audience. Her authenticity, professional grounding, and ability to bridge communication gaps make her a sought-after speaker for those serious about meaningful, lasting change.
