Toju Duke, Founder and CEO of Bedrock AI and Founder of Diverse AI, is committed to embedding ethical and inclusive practices into artificial intelligence, while also increasing representation of underrepresented groups in the field. Her lived experience as a Black woman navigating the tech industry powerfully shapes her insights, fuelling her dedication to fairness, equity, and accountability. Toju is a sought-after speaker, engaging global audiences with talks such as Building Responsibly in an AI-Driven World; The New Era: Embracing AI Technologies in Marketing; and Thinking Responsibly: The Science Behind Responsible AI Frameworks, all of which highlight her mission to make technology more human-centred and socially responsible.
Toju began her career in marketing, working as a Marketing Assistant at several organisations, including Kajans Women’s Enterprise, Bargainz Central, and TBG Learning. Her transition into the tech sector began at Google, where she held various roles from Dynamic Ads Specialist to Product Lead, EMEA – Travel. Her work culminated in a pivotal role as Programme Manager of Responsible AI, where she led initiatives that embedded ethical standards into AI product development. During this time, she also joined the Ethical AI Network at the Institute for Ethical AI & Machine Learning, building her profile as a thought leader in responsible AI. These experiences laid a strong foundation for her current work, highlighting the need for diverse voices in tech and sparking her lifelong commitment to inclusion.
In recent years, Toju has continued to gain recognition as a leader in both AI ethics and diversity. She founded Diverse AI in 2023 to advocate for equitable participation in artificial intelligence and launched Toju Duke Advisory, where she works as a Responsible AI Advisor. As an Ambassador of Women in AI, she supports initiatives promoting gender and racial equity across the tech industry. She is also the author of two widely acclaimed books: Building Responsible AI Algorithms (2023) and Responsible AI in Practice (2025). Her influence is global, marked by her role as a speaker at the 2025 Digital Almaty, where she addressed responsible innovation in front of an international audience.
Toju’s speaking engagements go beyond technical discourse; they explore the social implications of emerging technologies and the racial disparities embedded within them.
