Zita Holbourne is a distinguished diversity and inclusion advocate, celebrated for her tireless work in promoting racial equality and social justice. A National Vice President of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) and co-founder of Black Activists Rising Against Cuts (BARAC) UK, Zita has a long-standing commitment to fighting for the rights of Black communities and against austerity’s impact in the UK. Her work spans multiple disciplines, including visual arts, poetry, and writing, and she uses these creative platforms to champion equality and justice. Her book, “Striving for Equality, Freedom and Justice”, reflects her deep-rooted commitment to human rights and is a fusion of poetry and political commentary.
Zita has earned numerous accolades for her contributions to arts and activism. In 2023, she was named one of the ten Inspirational Role Models in the Global Diversity List, and in the same year, she received both the Outstanding Global Arts & Culture Award and the Best Global Community Influencer Award at the Caribbean Global Awards. She has been a significant voice on national and international platforms, including her role as a Trustee for Action for Southern Africa and her membership in the UNESCO Coalition of Artists for the General History of Africa, further solidifying her as a leading figure in the fight for equality.
Zita’s influence is also felt in her leadership roles in organisations such as the Public Services International Education Support & Culture Workers Network, where she serves as Co-Chair, and the Artists’ Union England, where she is Joint National Chair. Her activism is deeply intertwined with her artistic practice, notably in her exhibition, Roots, Culture, Identity, which pays tribute to Stephen Lawrence and aims to confront racism through visual art. In 2024, she has been selected as a judge for both the European Network of Cultural Centres and the Caribbean Global Awards, highlighting her continued relevance and authority in the cultural and activist spheres.
